Amazon Website
Amazon.co.uk is one of the UK's most popular websites so perhaps its no surprise they've started selling groceries. However if you've ever shopped online for food before, shopping for Amazon groceries online is a little different.

The Amazon groceries website at present only sells non fresh food, so its perfect for stocking up your store cupboard, cleaning items etc. That means you can't order fresh fruit and vegetables, or fresh meat, fish or deli items like you'll find at your local supermarket. The main aisles on the Amazon groceries website include Kitchen Cupboard, Tea & Coffee, Baby Food & Nappies, Homecare & Cleaning and Pet Supplies. Amazon do have an aisle for fresh and frozen food including bread but they are mostly fresh 'packaged' items or fruit baskets rather than being able to order fruit by the kilo.

The other point to watch out for is that in the Amazon groceries website, products from both Amazon and its marketplace suppliers are jointly available. So if you choose 3 items from 3 different marketplace suppliers, you will get 3 separate deliveries and pay 3 delivery charges.

TOP TIP - SAVE by looking out for SUPER SAVER DELIVERY
If you want to buy several items from Amazon groceries but don't want to pay lots of delivery charges from different marketplace suppliers then look out for those products marked 'Eligible for Super Saver Delivery' or use the link on the right to filter search results to only show Super Saver products or those sold only by Amazon. This means they are sold by Amazon directly - so you can put lots of these items in your basket and delivery will be free!

So you can't do a 'proper' grocery shop online at Amazon at present. But if you know this you can use it for buying the non fresh items and stocking up. This is where Amazon groceries really comes in to its own and is well worth using. Use it to stock up on large volumes of a single favourite item such as baby nappies, juices, bread for freezing or washing or dishwasher powder.

And as you might expect, the Amazon groceries website is really easy to use. Good product images, simple navigation, customer reviews to help you choose and quick search, plus Amazon's super quick checkout mean stocking up your cupboards is really easy.

Amazon Groceries Offers
Big offers like Buy One Get One Free or 3 for 2 aren't as obvious on the Amazon groceries website, however the navigation on the left column is really useful as it allows you to quickly filter your results by price.

And don’t forget that shopping for Amazon groceries online should save you money straight away. We found that by shopping online you can see your running trolley total at all times. It makes it easy to shop on a budget and means no nasty surprises when you reach the online checkout.

Amazon Groceries Delivery
If you only choose products sold by Amazon groceries then you can use Super Saver Delivery which with a small minimum spend means delivery is totally free, although can take up to a week to arrive.

Also take a look at the Amazon groceries Subscribe & Save programme. It allows you to choose items you regularly use and have them delivered every, one, two, three months etc. It allows you to save up to 15% on top of the existing savings and delivery is free.

TOP TIP - Buy Big Pack Sizes
Amazon groceries also sell many large pack sizes like you might find in warehouse supermarkets like CostCo. With free Super Saver Delivery this makes for great value on the things you use regularly

Amazon Groceries Substitutions & Missing Items
Unlike other online grocery services, as items are not picked from a local supermarket store then you don't get substitutions or missing items. You just order what you want and it turns up at your door.

Amazon Groceries Driver Friendliness
Your order from Amazon will be delivered by a courier or the postman, not a local driver from your local supermarket store. You get none of the friendliness but if you're ordering mostly packaged stock up items like cleaning products that's not such an issue. In our tests all items turned up when we expected them - the big issue was that there is no one or two hour time slots so if you work you either have to wait at home or go and pick up the items from the post office at the weekend.

I'd give Amazon groceries 5 stars - I use it to bulk buy essentials for the kids and saves loads of hassle at the supermarket and delivery is free. Can be a pain if courier doesn't turn up when I expect them though.
