See how easy it is to shop at Tesco.com

Tesco Website
Tesco.com is the only website where you have to register before you are allowed to browse the online store. A little frustrating but registration is quick. Overall the website is functional rather than fancy but when you’re shopping for Tesco groceries online that’s exactly what you want – quick and easy.

Tesco have a great little feature if you shop in branch and have a Tesco Clubcard. Simply register your card online and your in store products will be available online for you to choose from. Your first shop online always takes a little longer but this clever feature makes getting started a breeze.

Simply browse the aisles using the links at the top. Adding items to your basket is easy and the product images are good so you can easily see what you’re going to get. You don’t have to click on each product to add it to your basket which will save you time. Look out for the little blue ‘i’ icon which gives you a quick popup with more information on each product, such as if it is suitable for vegetarians.

We recommend starting with a list and using the really helpful Express Search box to quickly find the Tesco groceries you need. It allows you to type in your entire shopping list in one go and it then brings up your groceries on one easy to use page. If you want to amend any of the Tesco groceries you have bought simply use the + or – buttons in the trolley.

Another good feature are the Tesco recipes. They are regularly updated and you can add all the ingredients straight in to your basket in one quick click. We only wish they would cook them for us as well but you can’t have everything. Don’t forget to print the recipe whilst you are there so you can easily make it when the ingredients are delivered.

Checkout online is easy too and much easier than queueing in a store. Make sure you tick the box to store your credit card details. It is perfectly safe and will make checkout on your next shop even quicker.

And once you’ve placed your Tesco groceries order you can go back in to it until 10pm the night before delivery. We found that really useful to add items we had forgotten. Some of our family testers thought this was good as they prefer to shop late in the evening after the kids have gone to bed.

Tesco Offers
Tesco have a lot of offers and you’ll find the same offers on Tesco groceries online. If you’re shopping on a budget go straight to the Special Offers online before you go anywhere else. You can even filter offers by type such as Half Price Offers or Buy One Get One Free so you get the best deals. Another idea is to visit the Offers aisle then select See All Offers. You can then do your entire Tesco groceries shop from this page. It does take a bit of back and forth clicking but you would never be able to do a shop with only offers so easily in store.

TOP TIP - Get Cheaper Alternatives
When browsing the online store look out for products that have a Cheaper Alternatives link beneath them. Click on it to see an alternative brand with a lower price which you can add instead to save you money on your groceries.

And don’t forget that shopping for Tesco groceries online should save you money straight away. We found that by shopping online you can see your running trolley total at all times. It makes it easy to shop on a budget and means no nasty surprises when you reach the online checkout!

Tesco also run a price check every week against Ocado which matches some Tesco groceries on price. It is worth having a look to help you decide which supermarket is best for you. We also liked the family meal deals for £5 and the Tesco Finest meal deals for £9. Shopping online meant we could bulk buy these if we had a busy week ahead and didn’t want to do too much cooking.

Tesco Delivery
You can usually have your Tesco groceries delivered between 9am to 11pm Monday to Friday, 9am and 8pm on Saturday and between 10am and 3pm on Sunday. You can book a delivery in 2 hour time slots. Not the 1 hour that some supermarkets offer but generally most people find this OK. The great thing about Tesco groceries online is that they always have loads of delivery slots available, especially on Fridays and at weekends. Delivery charges vary from about £3 to over £5. If you can choose a less popular time then you can save quite a few pounds on delivery. Once booked your delivery slots is held for 2 hours which is plenty of time to do your grocery shopping.

None of our deliveries were late although most were in the later part of the 2 hour slots.

TOP TIP - Book a Delivery Slot Before You Shop
This will assign you to your nearest Tesco groceries store so you see the most accurate choice of products.

Substitutions & Missing Items
Substitutions are items picked by your Tesco groceries personal shopper if the item you added online is not available. We always recommend you switch on substitutions. They won’t always be right but having them is better than the driver turning up with nothing! Switching on substitutions is really easy – simply click on the View Full Basket button on the right of the page and select Provide Substitutions. If the substituted item is of a higher value, Tesco charge you the lower of the two prices.

We found the number of substitutions to be quite low given that we placed large orders for Tesco groceries each time. We weren’t happy with some items such as the burger substitutions but we think this is part of the online grocery experience and you have to accept there will sometimes be substitutions that you are not happy with.

Tesco Driver Friendliness
We think the friendliness of the driver is very important as you’re inventing them in to your home. On the whole Tesco drivers were friendly but we found we were more likely to get the odd disinterested driver compared to other online supermarkets. We always asked their name as you may get the same driver if you shop regularly and it’s good to get to know them. All our drivers were efficient and dropped off our groceries quickly and without fuss before driving off to their next delivery.

Online Groceries – Your Rights
1) What’s a Guide Price? You’ll notice the price in your trolley is only a guide. This is because by the time your groceries have been delivered some offers may have changed or you may have ordered weighed items. No problem – just be prepared that the final price on your delivery receipt might be different. You can always send items back with the driver if you think the price change is too large.

2) If an item turns up damaged or with an expired sell by date / use by date you can give it back to your driver for a refund. If the driver has gone you can return the items to your nearest Tesco groceries store but we found that was usually too much hassle so if there was just the odd damaged item and the driver had already gone we simply put it in the bin and didn’t worry about it.
